Active Vs Passive RCDs Passive RCDs, also known as Latching RCDs, trip and isolate the circuit they are protecting when power is lost due to a fault. However, they do not trip during power cuts, which makes them suitable for use with appliances like fridges, freezers, and in remote or unmanned areas. Active RCDs, also referred to as Non-Latching RCDs, not only trip and isolate the circuit in case of faults but also during power cuts. They remain in the off state until manually

reset. Consequently, these RCDs are well-suited for power tools, garden tools, and other rotating machinery.
