NEW ENERGY EFFICIENCY CLASSES. As of September 2021, new rules for the environ- mentally compatible design (ecodesign) and energy consumption labeling (product information) of energy-relevant products apply. These rules affect lightsources such as LED modules or lamps with pedestals. NO NEW LABEL FOR LIGHTS. The implementation of the new regulations for lighting is governed by EU regulations 2019/2015 or 2021/340 (product information) and 2019/2020 or 2021/341 (product design), which replace and supplement the previous requirements. These rules affect lightsources such as lamps with pedestals and LED modules. Lights with integrated non-destructively removable lightbulbs, on the other hand, are regarded as surrounding products and do not receive their own energy label – but the energy class of the integrated lightbulb must be stated in the instructions. A FUTURE-PROOF SCALE. The new EU regulation provides for a rescaling of the energy classes. The future energy label scale ranges from A to G and is not related to the previous scale. To ensure that the classification remains sustainable, the legislator has designed the requirements in such a way that the higher classes can only be reached in the future. This means, to give an example, that even a lightbulb with an energy class E has good efficiency. NEW ENERGY LABELS. The design of the new energy labels has also changed. To ensure that the energy label can be used in all EU member states, the linguistic components have been removed. The label also features a QR code that refers to a product’s corresponding entry in the publicly accessible part of the European product database for energy labelling (EPREL database). COMMITTED TO EFFICIENCY. As a company, SLV ensures that all products comply with the new regulations. Stationary traders with a stock of affected products acquired before September 1, 2021 will have a transitional period of 18 months during which the old energy labels may continue to be used.
