JCC Lighting Book 34
Solid joist Conventional solid timber joists are the traditional ceiling joists which are typically used in older, existing domestic buildings. They are widely found within internal floor and separating constructions.
I-joist I-Joists are strong, lightweight wooden joists intended for domestic applications, and are used in new builds throughout the UK. They continue to grow in popularity as they have greater strength to weight ratio and are less likely to bow compared to other options.
Steel open web joist Steel open web or POSI joists combine the lightness of timber with the strength of the Posi-strut steel web, allowing you to span far greater distances than alternative timber products. This can be used across a wide range of applications including domestic, industrial and commercial.
