IP Ratings Understanding Ingress Protection

Ingress Protection (IP) is a two digit value given to products that have particular protection against dust and/ or moisture. The first digit identifies the level of protection against solid objects and dust particles, while the second digit identifies the protection against moisture.

IP ratings are relevant wherever moisture may be present, such as bathrooms, utility rooms and exterior locations, so it is important to choose the right IP rating for your location. The higher the numbers are, the greater protection the product has.

Protection against foreign objects 0 being the lowest, providing no protection against foreign objects, and 6 being the highest, providing dust tight protection.
