Case Study: Real colour is the new frontier for LED Lighting

A mong our many goals at Integral LED, delivering colour vibrancy for our customers is a current target. Once the domain of the specialist lighting luminaire – realistic colour was an expensive option reserved for high-end retailers and other premium interiors. Over the last year, our laboratory (and partner) research and development has delivered affordable LED spotlights and non-directional lamps with high colour accuracy that is available for all budgets. Compared to halogen and other ‘legacy’ light sources, LED has struggled to match other lighting technology in the rendering of certain colours. This shortcoming is particularly marked in LED lamps that have a CRI rating of under 80. Until recently, interiors that demanded an accurate representation of colours relied upon costly LED luminaires that deliver a CRI of 90 plus. Applications in retail, such as the display of fresh fruit and vegetables and in the merchandising of fashion garments have relied upon these expensive lighting solutions or have retained their loyalty for metal halide or tungsten.

been incorporated within a GU10 for the wider market. The Integral LED ‘Real Colour’ spotlight delivers a highly tuned correlated colour temperature (CCT) and is calibrated to within three steps on a Mac Adams ellipse. A ‘crystal effect lens’ adds a retro sparkle reminiscent of the (now banned from import into the EU) halogen spotlight and delivers a diffused light with a 38° beam angle. A premium aesthetic characteristic that looks good when the lamp is on or off. The Real Colour GU10 range has four models with dimmable included and is powered by 7W; an ideal cost saving replacement for 50Whalogen spotlights. The GU10 has a choice of 2700K and 4000K and delivers 380 and 440 Lumens of light suitable for both cool functional and warm lighting schemes that require the highest standards in colour quality. Now, households and commercial premises can benefit from precision colour accuracy that will make soft
