Collingwood Lighting Brochure 2020/21

Information.

Lighting terms.

AC (alternating current) An electrical current which changes direction periodically. Accent lighting Aesthetic lighting that provides emphasis, depth and decoration to draw attention to particular objects. Ambient temperature Ambient temperature relates to the average air temperature in the environment surrounding the luminaire / LED driver. Bathroom zone Suitability for a product to be installed near or in water. CCT Correlated Colour Temperature. Colour switchable Colour temperature can be switched between 3000K to 4000K or 6000K / 6500K. CRI Colour Rendering Index. DALI Digital Addressable Lighting Interface. A method of digital dimming, allowing precise control of individual light fittings by an external control system. DC (direct current) An electrical current flowing in one direction only. Dim to warm The CCT becomes warmer as the product is dimmed. Downlight A luminaire designed to be installed in a ceiling, with the light source pointed vertically downwards. Flicker A visible constant fluctuation of light output from on to off. IK rating Indicates the protection against mechanical impact. Rated from IK00 to IK10. Insulation coverable Insulation can be laid directly on top of the product this can refer to rolled or blown wool insulation.

IP rating Ingress Protection Rating. Kelvin (K) Kelvin is the scientific unit for measuring CCT (Correlated Colour Temperature). L70, B10 / L70, B50 Lifetime indication of LEDs. LED (light emitting diode) Emits light through the conversion of electrical energy. Lumens (lm) The quantity of light emitted from a light source that is visible. The higher the lumens, the brighter the light. Luminaire Is a light fitting that contains a light source, mechanical fixings and a power supply. Luminous efficacy Is a measure of energy efficiency and is calculated by dividing the lumens by the wattage (lm/W). Luminous flux Total number of ‘lumens’ emitted from a light source. Lux (lx) Quantity of light that illuminates a surface, e.g. in a corridor 100 lux are required on the floor. LUXEON crisp white technology This technology activates fluorescing agents in paints and fabrics to display merchandise in true colours. mA A milliamp is one thousandth of an amp (0.001A). Collingwood products are typically designed to take 350mA, 700mA, 900mA. Microwave sensor A presence sensor to reduce the amount of time lighting is left on unnecessarily. PIR Passive Infrared Device, used to activate lighting when a person enters a room or area. Power supply / driver Power source for the LED luminaire.

REACH Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & Restriction of Chemicals. All Collingwood products are REACH compliant. RGB Red, Green, Blue. Used to describe colour changing products that can be used to dynamically add colour to any environment. RGBW Stands for Red, Green, Blue, White. Used to describe colour changing products that can be used to dynamically add colour to any environment. Can also be run on white when natural lighting is required. RoHS Restriction of Hazardous Substances, an EU requirement that restricts the use of harmful materials within products. All Collingwood products are RoHS compliant. SELV Separated Extra Low Voltage. A low voltage power supply that will not exceed 50V AC or 120V DC. Task lighting Describing the installation or retrofit of LED downlights or other lighting specifically to provide functional illumination of an environment. Thermal management LEDs are susceptible to heat. Thermal management refers to components that are designed to remove heat efficiently to ensure high light output and long lifetime from the LEDs. UGR UGR stands for Unified Glare Rating. The lower the value, the more comfortable the environment. Watt (W) The unit of electrical power stating the amount of electricity consumed by the product. WEEE Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Collingwood is part of a WEEE scheme. Our WEEE Registration: WEE/JC3973RV

Wiring / electrical terms.

A extension leads Ready-made leads for easy extension of cables, usually with male / female plugs for Plug & Play extensions. Flying leads Electrical leads already attached to the product. HO5RN-F Electrical cable suitable for outdoor use.

Pattress box Back box for electrical front plates. Plug & play Cables on product have 1 x male and 1 x female plugs attached for quick connection. PTFE A non-stick, chemically resistant insulating material.

Shielded cable Inner wires are wrapped in a shielding material to protect from electrical interference. Straight to mains Product for which no other wiring is required other than connection to the mains supply.
