The Building Regulations 2010 Approved Document B - Fire Safety Thermoplastic Fire Rating TP(A)/TP(B)

R D TP(a) A T E

R D TP(b) A T E

Aurora’s LED Panel range TP tests were carried out by the LIA and the results detail the burning rate of a thermoplastic material. The tests that were carried out on each material samples were in accordance with BS 2782-0:2011 Method 508A Rate of burning, Laboratory method to determine whether the thermoplastic is TP(a) or TP(b) rated according to The Building Regulations 2010 (volume 2 - Buildings other than dwelling houses B). TP(a) is achieved for a specimen of which (at the thickness of the product as put on the market), when tested as above, performs so that the test fl ame extinguishes before the fi rst mark and the duration of fl aming or afterglow does not excess 5 seconds following removal of the burner. There is no restriction to the use of TP(a) material other than in protected stairways. TP(b) is achieved for other products which, when a specimen of the material between 1.5 and 3mm thick is tested as above, has a rate of burning which does not exceed 50mm/minute. In some instances there are restrictions on the use of TP(b) material within applications as detailed within the Building Regulations and for clari fi cation of the limitations of use. Please consult the aforementioned Building Regulations or contact Aurora for further guidance. In terms of practical application, Aurora’s TP(b) panels are generally suitable for typical of fi ce and commercial applications, based on standard panel spacings. Their integral diffusers have been designed to limit the spread of fl ame across the face of the panel and reduce the risk of a burning diffuser spreading fi re to surrounding areas.
